These activities work with elders in small groups (16-21 people) to help build trust between community members; help clients restore their confidence, dignity, and self-worth; aid elders in adopting an active and healthy life style; and reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness, and depression.
Through networks with health-related organizations, health education and nutrition seminars are provided on topics of interest to elders once per month. Examples of topics include diabetes, high blood pressure, nutrition, and cancer. Elders are also asked to suggest topics that they would like to know more about. Health education increases the knowledge and ability of elders to improve their own health and provides the opportunity for elders to share their knowledge of health issues with family.
